B&E 2010
Several years ago, UST Logistical Systems started a charity event called
UST's Breaking and Entering Christmas. Our concept is to anonymously reach out
to families with small children that are enduring especially tough hardships and
provide the family a Christmas experience that without our help would not be
possible. We also try to help them address some of the things that are causing
their hardship. Once we find the right family, we partner with someone who
knows the family personally. This family contact gets us information about the
family's situation, collects Dear Santa letters from the children and creates a
way to get the family away from their home on the actual day of the "B&E" so we
can sneak into the house undetected.
Once we have the information, we get the UST family and our clients involved
raising money to buy gifts from the Santa lists, decorations for the house, a
Christmas tree, Christmas dinner as well as help the family in other ways. Then
a few days before Christmas, the family contact takes the family somewhere away
for the home for a few hours so the B&E Team consisting of UST volunteers, can
sneak in and set everything up. As soon as we are finished, we sneak back out
again before the family arrives home. The UST family has done some
tremendous things through this program including furnishing a stay free hotel
for a St Jude hospital and providing a new house for a sick elderly grandmother
caring for her 5 grandchildren.
This year our family of 5 was having a real hard time because Robyn, age 3 and
the youngest of three girls had been diagnosed with Kabuki Syndrome and Type III
Chiari Malformation two years before. These conditions cause heart defects,
hearing loss, skeletal abnormalities and structural defects in the brain and
spinal cord. This had undergone numerous life threatening brain surgeries and
related operations while doctors attempted to treat her. The nearest hospital
capable of offering these operations was 300 miles away. As a result, the
parents had been unable to work regularly and provide for their family.
Their mortgage had fallen behind as did their other bills. A needed repair to
their roof and their heater went unaddressed making their home unfit to bring
their daughter home from the hospital once she recovered.
We wanted to send out a Thank You to the following people for their
